Charles is a landscape designer who has found his passion designing residential landscapes for his East Bay clientele. He takes pride using his experience in design and plant knowledge to help the finished landscape exceed his client’s expectations.
Growing up in Pleasant Hill, Charles has always had artistic tendencies. Prior to any education in design, he spent his time out in nature, whether planting in his parent’s yard or painting scenic pictures. Charles explored the design process at Diablo Valley College with the intent of getting a degree in Architecture. Visiting U. C. Davis, he discovered the field of Landscape Architecture. “It was like two worlds collided for me. I love being outdoors; planting, gardening, cutting flowers. I also love sitting at a drafting table and being creative on paper. I realized two things that I am enthusiastic about can be used benefit our environment.”
Charles graduated from U. C. Davis in 1999 with a B. S. in Landscape Architecture. He spent two years in Stockton working on public works and commercial property projects. “It was amazing to be a small part of these multi-million dollar projects right out of college. The frustrating part of the process was how long each project would take, from the start of the design through the completed project.” The next stop was a retail nursery in Sacramento. This was a great supplemental education in horticulture for him. Following that stint, he worked for twelve years working for a licensed landscape architect in the Bay Area. He gained valuable insight into making creative designs that are functional and practical. He also furthered his knowledge in how to design a landscape with year-round interest; not only with the color of flowers but also the color and texture of foliage of the plants.
